About us

Built from experience.
Designed for what comes next.

Palesttra was created by Barb and Rena to make powerful career changing work more accessible to high-potential professionals navigating what comes next

Palesttra wasn't built from theory. It was built from experience: our own careers, our own inflection points, and years of watching talented professionals struggle not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked clarity

We've lived the moments where the path forward wasn't obvious and the standard advice didn't fit. And we've spent years helping others do the same, developing the methodology, frameworks, and instincts that became Palesttra

We built this because we knew it worked. We'd seen it change careers. We'd watched people achieve things they had only imagined, faster than they thought possible

We show up for every client as if their success is our own. Because it is.

The people behind the work.

Barb Birr

Founder. Strategist. Whale watcher.

A founder and senior leader with experience spanning health sciences, retail, and professional services, Barb has led two health sciences ventures, including a joint venture with a Canadian partner, guided marketing strategy for wholesale and retail organizations, and worked with researchers, physicians, and executives at leading institutions through some of the most consequential decisions of their careers.

She also knows firsthand what it means to stand at an inflection point. After eleven years building a startup, Barb faced a defining choice and walked away toward something she hadn't let herself imagine. That decision changed everything. Today she brings that same clarity to professionals navigating their own inflection points: building plans, removing obstacles, and helping people move toward careers they actually chose.

There is nothing she loves more than being the person who helps others arrive.

Rena Hale

Pioneer. Encourager. Dot connector.

A biomedical engineer and PhD researcher with more than 40 published papers, Rena has built a career at the intersection of innovation, engineering, medicine, and education. She became the first Program Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Mayo Clinic (a program she founded), where she supports moving medical technology to market and teaches students, clinicians, and faculty to work across the boundaries their training never asked them to cross.

She also knows firsthand what it means to stand at an inflection point. Early in her career she faced many shifts her mentors hadn't, becoming a mother among them, and found no map for merging a real passion for science with the life she actually wanted. She built one anyway. Today she brings that same conviction to the people coming up behind her: encouraging them to be brave, to lean into the biggest challenges ahead, and to reach for what they actually want.

The dots other people miss are the ones she goes looking for.
